Odor is a great way to help diagnose a bacterial infection. Here are some common ones [1] and here [2].
Foul smelling
Foul smelling stools likely giardia or c difficile. If loose or watery likely giardia. Giardia tends to smell like dog poop from my experience and some say c diff smells more sweet [3] Salmonella or e coli are also possible causes [4]. Here is some info on c difficile smell [5]
Besides the smell, giardia is more likely to produce bloating and gas and c difficile more likely to cause cramping. Also c diff causes a isopropanol smell in the sweat and body odor.
